Accessing BARX for the first time

When accessing BARX for the first time you may experience some minor issues.

If you have a pop-up blocker activated this may prevent the BARX window from opening. Please set your pop-up blocker to allow pop- ups from Barclays Stockbrokers. Remember to set this in both your browser pop-up blocker and any others you may have installed e.g. Yahoo or Google tool bars.

When you login for the first time you’ll notice that the research area takes about 60 seconds to load. This is normal and all subsequent logins will be quicker.

Creating your own view

BARX is split into four distinct areas.

Research Tools & Streaming Data (Area 1):The first which is located in the centre and left as pictured above is where all the streaming data and research tools appear.

Trading (Area 2): The second area is to the right in the picture above and this is your dealing area where you can trade stocks as well as CFDs. You also have the ability to save up potential orders which you’d like to place into the market here

Integrated Account Features (Area 3): The third area which is at the base of the platform features 7 tabs – the first starting with ‘Account Summary’. This area features all your account information including your current positions, order and deal history, preferences, inbox and more.

Top Navigation (Area 4)This area is in a navy blue colour and is positioned at the top of the platform. Here you will find links to other services which we offer beyond this platform, including non UK CFDs, Spread Trading and Funds as well as administrative tools such as Contact Us and Help. It’s also where you logout of BARX.

Within the first three areas listed above, you have the ability to increase or decrease their positions in the platform.  You can increase the size of the research tools & streaming data area by snapping in and out of the deal ticket. To do this, simply select the border between the research area and the deal ticket. This will hide any deal tickets you have open or saved. At any time you can restore the original view by simply selecting the border again. You can also minimise the Account View area by selecting the minimise icon in the top right hand corner. Within the research area itself you have the ability to customise the size and position of the tools and market data to suit your needs.

Can I access the BARX from another pc?

Most platforms containing live streaming data, customisation and superior navigation require you to download the platform software onto your computer.

BARX is a web-based platform and so you can access the platform from any pc which meets the minimum system requirements, giving you the flexibility and freedom to use the platform when and where you need it

Can I login from two different PCs at the same time?

No. You can only access BARX from one computer at a time.

My Level 2/data is not streaming

There are a couple of common reasons why this may happen:

  • Check you are still connected to the internet. The easiest way to do this is to open a new browser window and try to visit another web page
  • The platform or streaming feed may have timed out. Try logging of, restarting your computer and then logging back in

You can tell if the streaming data is functioning by the flashing lights in the corner of the research tools & streaming data area of the site (these are green when the feed is live and functioning normally and red when the feed is suspended, pending, delayed or not streaming in any way).

In the top right corner of the platform you’ll notice six small circles, when you see movement in these it indicates pages within the deal or account services area are in the process of loading.

If you’re still having problems, please contact your Relationship Manager.

Accessing BARX from behind a firewall or proxy server

As BARX is web based there’s no need for you to configure your personal firewall.

If you’re accessing BARX from behind a firewall at your workplace, and experiencing access problems, your local IT administrator should be able to provide you with guidance.

If you access the internet from behind a proxy server you may need to configure the platform.

To do this select 'Proxy settings' from the folder icon located at the top of the research area and enter the host server name and port. Your local IT administrator should be able to give you these details, as shown below.

Once you’ve entered these details you’ll need to select the submit changes button, close the browser window and login again.

Why can I view BARX but not the research?

As the research area of BARX uses Java, your PC needs a current version of Java Runtime for you to view streaming data. You should also ensure your proxy settings are correct. If the research area fails to load when you login, please check the version of Java you’re running.

To do this:

  • Select ‘Start'
  • Select 'Control panel'
  • Select ‘Add/Remove programs’.
  • Select ‘J2SE Runtime Environment’ from the list of programs displayed. Please note if you have a large number of programs installed on your PC this may take a few minutes
  • Select ’More Information’.

This will give you the version number. If this is lower than 1.4.2 you will need to upgrade to the latest version.

If ‘JS2E Runtime Environment’ is not displayed in the list of programs, you may not have java installed.

You also need to make sure that Java is enabled in your browser. To do this in Internet Explorer follow these steps:

  • Select 'Tool' then 'Internet Options'
  • Select the 'Advanced' tab
  • Scroll down the list of settings until you find 'Use JRE 1.5.0_06 for <applet> (Requires restart)'
  • Make sure that the option next to this is selected.

If not, select this option, select apply at the button of the 'Internet Options' dialog box and restart your PC.

If you have the most up to date version of Java enabled in your browser but you’re still experiencing difficulties, please contact your Relationship Manager.

Why are my account details not updating?

In the Account Summary section of the platform your details will automatically be refreshed every 30 seconds.  In other administration areas, like Deal History, the refresh will only happen automatically after 5 minutes.

You can refresh your view manually at any time by selecting the refresh button.

How do I make a technical enquiry?

If you are having technical issues with BARX, you can contact us on 0845 300 4449. For details of our opening hours, please see Contact Us.

Why do I get logged out of the platform when I go back to the CFD website?

When you login to BARX you are also logging into your CFD account. For security reasons, you can’t login to your CFD account twice. If you attempt to do this, the first CFD session will close and log you out of the platform. You can link and unlink your CFD at any time. If you do have a CFD account but it isn’t appearing in the platform, please visit our BARX features section to learn how to link this within the platform.
