Each week, Barclays Wealth screen over 500 individual stocks using a combination of fundamental analysis and industry knowledge to create recommendations.

We then take the companies that are most and least attractive on this model, and combine our quantitative findings with fundamental analysis, industry knowledge and strategic views to create active recommendations.

Barclays Wealth generally have around 80 active recommendations and provide coverage on them all in addition to all the companies in the FTSE 100.

The analysis provided in the Barclays Wealth Equity Notes includes;

  • Two-year profit and revenue forecasts.
  • Investment conclusion.
  • Commentary on capital returns and balance sheet strength.
  • Valuation.
  • Investment risks.
  • Our overall grade for the stock relative to its sector, the sector relative to the market, and the stock relative to the market.

Stock Notes with active recommendations are updated on a quarterly basis and include any significant news events.

Understanding our grading structure

Barclays Wealth use a sensitive grading system which takes account of;

  • The stock in relation to its sector;
  • Its sector in relation to the market;
  • The stock compared to the market as a whole.

The recommendations are:

  • Buy
  • Accumulate (add to holdings within appropriate market weightings)
  • Neutral (stock expected to perform in line with its sector)
  • Source of Funds (may be retained or could be used to raise cash where required)
  • Sell

We currently have over 100 stocks which we actively monitor and when our view on these changes to one of the recommendations listed above, we will publish this on our site.
