Placing a funds order online - 3 step process

To place a fund order online you should select the Deal tab and choose the ‘Deal Funds’ page from the left hand menu.

Step 1: Funds - Enter Order

On this first screen you will be asked to confirm the account you want to deal in. If you have more than one account, you will need to choose the account you want to use from the 'A/C Selected' drop down box at the top right hand side of the page.

Before placing a purchase order, you may want to check your amount ‘Available to Invest’ by going to the Account View page within the Portfolio & Accounts tab. Similarly, before placing a sale order you may want to confirm the quantity of your fund Holding, again by visiting the ‘Account View’ page.

When trading in funds you may also want to check the last published price of the fund by accessing the relevant Fund Factsheets within the 'About Funds' section of the Research Centre.

When you've checked all the details you've entered are correct select the green 'proceed' button on the bottom right of the screen.

Step 2: Verify Order

You'll need to confirm the following so that we can act on your instructions:

  • The fund manager and fund name applicable to the order you are placing. These can be selected from the corresponding drop down lists available on the ‘Funds – Enter Order’ page. These lists contain all of the funds covered by Barclays Stockbrokers Funds Market, which benefit from a reduced initial charge. If you are placing an order in your ISA account then only eligible funds will be displayed in the list of funds.
  • Whether you want to buy or sell units.
  • The number of units you want to buy or sell, or a cash amount you want to invest or raise. Note that when entering a number of units you must enter a whole number, except when you are selling your entire fund holding then partial units will be accepted.
  • Please note that in order to prevent your ISA or SIPP account going overdrawn when placing a funds order to buy units, you may only invest in an amount of cash, as the price is not confirmed at the time you place your order.

When you have selected the fund applicable to your order, the last price will be displayed on screen - last price is an indication price only and for Unit Trusts represents a mid price (halfway price between buying and selling). Your amount ‘Available to Invest’ if buying units or your current available ‘Holding’ if selling units will also be displayed on screen as you make your selection to ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ units.

There are no minimum or maximum restrictions for sale orders although you must own the number of units being sold. For purchase orders the minimum investment must be equal to or greater then £500 and the maximum will be determined by your amount ‘Available to Invest’.

From the ‘Funds – Enter Order’ page you can gain access to detailed information about the selected fund by using the ‘Fund Information’ link located to the right of the drop down list of fund managers.

When you've checked all the details you've entered are correct you'll need to confirm your trade by pressing the green 'Proceed' button.

Step 3: Confirming your trade

When you are happy with the details entered, choose the green ‘Proceed’ button on the ‘Funds – Enter Order’ page which will take you to the ‘Funds – Verify Order’ page. If there are any details that have not been entered which we need to process your order we will prompt you with a message at the top of the page. If you are unsure about any of the details you have entered then choose the red ‘Clear’ button to clear the screen of all the details you have already input so you can re-enter your order.

On the ‘Funds – Verify Order’ page we will display the details of your order and notify you of the cut-off day and time. Your order will be dealt on the day displayed here. You can also gain access to the disclosures applicable to funds dealing.

When you submit your order, if our system detects that you have already placed the same type of order (to buy or sell) for the same fund and it has not yet been dealt, we will notify you of this on the ‘Funds – Verify Order’ page and amalgamate your orders for dealing purposes.

When you go ahead by selecting the green ‘Place Order’ button, you will be taken to ‘Funds – Order Received’ which confirms that your order has been successfully received by us. Here you will be notified of the expected dealing and settlement dates. All funds orders are dealt for settlement 4 days after the deal date.

If you want to change any of the details displayed on the ‘Funds – Verify Order’ page, then choose the blue ‘Change Order’ button to take you back to the ‘Funds – Enter Order’ page where you can amend your details. If you do not want to proceed, choose the red 'Do Not Place Order' button to cancel the order altogether.

Fund orders received by us will be carried out on the date notified to you on the ‘Funds – Order Received’ page. Please note that we cannot guarantee the price at which your fund order will be carried out. Only on very rare occasions, when your order is cancelled by us due to a change in your dealing circumstances since your order was accepted, will your fund order not be dealt.

Rejected Funds Orders - If we have been unable to process your funds order then it will appear in your Order Status table as "rejected". Should your fund order have a "rejected" status, please contact us on 0845 601 7788*.

Until your fund order is dealt its status will be pending. Your amount ‘Available to Invest’ and ‘Holdings’ will have been adjusted immediately following receipt of your order and you will not be able to use either the cash or the units in future orders whilst your original fund order remains in a pending state.

At any time after you have placed a fund order you can check its progress by accessing the ‘Order Status’ area found under the ‘Deal’ or ‘Portfolio & Accounts’ tabs. Please note that is not possible to cancel or amend a funds order online.

When your fund order is successfully dealt we will send you a contract note for you to keep for your records. A record of your deal will also be held within the ‘Account History’ area under ‘Portfolio & Accounts’ tab and you can also view the details of the deal in ‘Deal History’ which can be found in the ‘Portfolio & Accounts’ tab & ‘Deal’ tab.

Contract Notes will be dispatched in the post on the deal date. If you have not received your contract note within 3 business days of the deal date then please contact us on 0845 601 7788*.

Disclosure of inducements

When we invest in a fund on behalf of a client, Barclays Stockbrokers may receive remuneration from the Fund Manager in two forms:

  • We may receive a share of the Initial Service Charge (ISC) applied by a Fund Manager. On a Funds Market fund, this will be a maximum of 1.5%. For non-Funds Market funds this will vary on a per fund basis and be a % of the standard ISC applied by the Fund Manager. This will be detailed on the contract note.

  • Please note we may add or remove funds to/from the Funds Market without notification. You can check whether a fund is included in the Funds Market at any time via the Funds Research Centre or by calling us on your normal dealing number.
  • We may receive trail commission from the fund manager. If we do, this will be a % of the standard Annual Management Charge (AMC) applied by the Fund Manager.

Details of any remuneration received are available on request. More information on how remuneration is calculated can be found in our charges and remunerations worked example.

The following points relate to funds deals:

  • The 'Last Price' is the last price published by the fund manager at the close of business the previous day.  For Unit Trusts this is a mid price*, and for OEICS this is the single price. (*mid price is half way between the buying and selling price.)

  • All funds are dealt on a forward pricing basis.
  • Orders received prior to the cut off time stated will be passed to the appropriate fund managers for dealing at the next valuation point, normally on the same business day. Orders received after the cut off time stated will be passed to the fund manager for dealing at the next valuation point, normally the following business day. This reflects standard practice for dealing in funds.
  • Cancellation rights do not apply to orders placed through Barclays Stockbrokers.
  •  Funds are dealt on an execution only basis.
  • Under certain circumstances a dilution levy may be charged by the fund manager. This is to ensure investor protection.

If you are unsure about the suitability of trading in funds for your investment needs you should speak to an independent financial advisor.
